⏳ The Only Writing Tip You'll Ever Need

T.I.N.Y Blog, Time Billionaires #023

Hello to 16,430 nerds reading this T.I.N.Y blog.

TL;DR (feel free to skip around):

  • Thought: Write simply and start today

  • Interesting: Product pictures got so much cooler

  • Not to be missed: How to not lose during the recession

  • Yes: Discipline to learn is scarce

The Only Writing Tip You’ll Ever Need

Okay, so I’m going to cheat and give you 2 tips. But they’re both simple enough to be called one tip:

  1. Write as you talk

  2. Get started now

Why should you write as you talk? Because it’s most natural. It’s not only natural for the person writing it but also for the person reading it.

When you write as you talk, you also tend to avoid unnecessary jargon that you’d add otherwise.

Business writing aims to communicate your idea, startup, thoughts, or plans as effectively as possible. The most important metric is the transmission rate of your thoughts. The more jargon you include, the less of your message is transmitted.

As for the second point, “get started now”, I really mean it.

Writing is a skill. It takes time but more accurately, it takes reps. If you let time pass without putting in the reps, you can’t become a better writer.

The best way I’ve found to build a writing habit is to write daily on Twitter (@aaditsh). Even if they’re just short single tweets, you exercise your brain to share insights in the most concise way possible.

If you’re feeling motivated, join this 30-day tweet challenge. Here is a simple tracker you can use.

All you have to do is write a tweet every day on Twitter.

You can write about what you’re working on. If you feel imposter syndrome while writing online, let me tell you that even the people you look up to online feel the same.

I’d love to keep track here.

If you’re in, tell the world!

+ Aadit’s picks:

  1. Newsletter: Psychology of MarketingEvery week, Abhishek (internet nerd + psychology major) sends a marketing case study that I love reading! He talks about the different effects that occur in marketing and how businesses leverage it to sell more. It’s also free.

  2. Tool: Tribe ScalerI’ve been in the content marketing space (for Twitter and LinkedIn) for the past 2 years. One thing I realized quickly: the hook is the most important part.Great content + bad hook = bad performance.Great content + good hook = great performance.I usually write my hooks/titles and then sleep on them to post tomorrow. I recently found a great tool to help me come up with different versions of hooks (using AI). It’s Tribe Scaler. Try it for free for a week.
