🗞️ News
Uber fined $324 million
Uber has been fined $324 million by the Dutch Data Protection Authority for improperly transferring driver data from the EU to the US, violating the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The authority found that Uber failed to adequately safeguard sensitive driver information, including identity documents and payment details, during this transfer.
Complaints from 170 French drivers prompted the investigation. Uber plans to appeal the decision, asserting that its data transfer process was compliant during a period of regulatory uncertainty
Telegram CEO arrested!
Telegram CEO Pavel Durov was arrested in France as part of an investigation into criminal activities on the messaging platform. French authorities allege insufficient moderation and cooperation from Telegram, particularly regarding crimes against children.
The company maintains that Durov has "nothing to hide" and that it is "absurd" to hold a platform responsible for user abuse. Durov, a Russian-born French citizen, is currently in custody as the probe continues.
Target's price cuts drive strong growth
Target Corporation reported a 2% increase in sales for the second quarter, marking a turnaround from previous declines. The retailer's adjusted earnings per share surged 40% year-over-year to $2.57, exceeding Wall Street expectations. This growth is attributed to strategic price cuts on over 5,000 essential items, which boosted store traffic and digital sales.
Despite the positive results, Target issued cautious guidance for the remainder of the year, anticipating modest sales growth ahead.
That’s it for now!
