🗞️ News

$3B Funding Halt for EV

The Trump administration has halted $3 billion in funding for electric vehicle charging stations under the NEVI program. The Federal Highway Administration announced an immediate pause on new obligations, leaving state projects uncertain. Existing contracts will continue, but the program is under review. The decision aligns with Trump’s broader push for fossil fuel expansion. Legal challenges from states are expected.

Meta Using Pirated Content?

Newly unsealed emails suggest Meta knowingly torrented and seeded pirated books to train its AI models. Court filings claim Meta downloaded at least 81.7 terabytes from shadow libraries like LibGen and Z-Library, with internal messages showing employees raised legal concerns. Meta allegedly tried to hide its seeding activity, with researchers discussing "stealth mode" tactics. Authors argue this contradicts prior testimony and demand further depositions. Meta maintains its AI training falls under fair use.

Lyft x Claude AI

Lyft is using Anthropic’s Claude AI to handle customer service requests, cutting resolution time by 87 percent. The chatbot answers common driver inquiries but redirects complex issues to human agents. Some drivers worry this could make support feel even more impersonal. Lyft is also using AI to assist engineers, with 25 percent of its code now AI-generated.

That’s it for now!
