🗞️ News
U.S. Awards $1.6B to Texas Instruments for Chip Plants
The US administration has announced a $1.6 billion grant to Texas Instruments to support the construction of three semiconductor manufacturing plants in Texas and Utah. This funding, part of the bipartisan CHIPS Act, aims to enhance domestic semiconductor production and address supply chain vulnerabilities exposed during the pandemic.
The new facilities are expected to create over 2,000 jobs, with production starting as early as 2025. This initiative is part of a broader effort to increase U.S. semiconductor manufacturing capacity, which has significantly declined in recent decades
Cisco Lays Off 5,500 of Its Workforce
Cisco Systems has announced a layoff affecting approximately 5,500 employees, representing 7% of its workforce. This decision follows a previous reduction of 4,000 jobs earlier this year. The company aims to streamline operations and invest in growth areas such as artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
Despite the layoffs, Cisco reported a profit of $10.3 billion for the last fiscal year, although total revenue declined slightly to $53.8 billion. The restructuring includes consolidating its networking and security teams following its acquisition of Splunk earlier this year.
X Shuts Down Brazil Operations Amid Censorship Dispute
Media platform X has announced the immediate closure of its operations in Brazil, citing "censorship orders" from judge Alexandre de Moraes. The company claims Moraes threatened legal action against its representatives unless it complied with content removal demands.
X stated that the decision aims to safeguard its staff, while the platform remains accessible to Brazilian users. The Brazilian Supreme Court has not commented on the authenticity of the document shared by X regarding the judge's orders.
That’s it for now!
